Teyla Emmagan
|
Teyla Emmagan is an Athosian from the planet Athos, daughter of Tagan and Torren. Her mother, Tagan, taught her about hunting, fighting with banto'a, and trading. Her father, Torren, also taught her how to barter and deal fairly, and not be fooled by greedy merchants. Teyla is very close to Charin, whom she sees a grandmother, and she loves listening to Charin's stories. When Teyla is seven years old, a baby brother is born in spring; however he dies in the winter due to illness. Teyla has the Gift, the ability to sense the Wraith coming, passed down by both her parents making her Gift very strong. Teyla is very close to Charin, whom she sees a grandmother, and she loves listening to Charin's stories.
Teyla is the leader of her people until she joins the Lanteans and becomes part of AR-1 in 2004 CE; then her duties go to Halling. When neither Dr Weir nor Sheppard is in Atlantis, she temporarily acts as leader of the base because of her various skills and broad knowledge. She often acts as a guide and helps the Expedition build alliances and trading relations with the human settlements of the Pegasus galaxy. Teyla is mostly a calm and collected person, a fair speaker and diplomat, a good hunter and tracker, and a skilled fighter. She is better at hand-to-hand and sparring than at shooting. Her Dæmon is named Kanaan. In Athosian culture, for two Dæmons to speak directly to one another or to other people is not as taboo as it is on Earth, which surprises the Tau'ri at first. Historythe descendantsTeyla experiences her first Culling when she is three years old, but she is too young to remember it. The first time she remembers hearing the Screamer Ships (Darts), she is seventeen years old.
Her mother, Tagan, teaches her about hunting, fighting with banto'a, and trading. Her father, Torren, also teaches her how to barter and deal fairly, and not be fooled by greedy merchants. Teyla often listens to old Charin's stories about Athos as it was hundreds of years ago. Teyla's parents lead their people until their deaths. Torren is killed by the Wraith thirteen days before Teyla's twenty-first birthday (1993 CE). Her mother dies a natural death (1999 CE), which is celebrated since that is a rare thing in Pegasus. we are the raven and the ghost | the uprisingTeyla meets the Atlantis Expedition in 2004 CE. She is at first wary of them, with the exception of Major Sheppard, whom she shows some old ruins to explain the Wraith and the Cullings. When Wraith Cull Athos and take her and several others, including Halling, Colonel Sumner and Sergeant Bates, to the Wraith Homeworld, they are rescued by a team led by Sheppard. The Athosians come to live in Atlantis, since Athos is no longer safe. Teyla decides to join AR-1 and gives Halling, the Athosian's spiritual leader, the responsibility to lead their people. Teyla joins AR-1 on many missions between 2004 and 2005 CE. She introduces them to the Genii, whom she thought were farmers and allies-to-be, but it was not so.
Athosians begin to built a settlement and grow crops on the Lantean mainland. A Great Storm in 2005 CE forces them to evacuate, and they do not return to the Mainland after that. Teyla goes with Beckett and Ford to evacuate a last group of young hunters just as the Storm hits, and are not able to help Major Sheppard defend the City from a Genii Strike Force. Teyla becomes good friends with Sheppard and starts to teach him the art of banto'a. Throughout their friendship, Teyla begins to suspect that Sheppard does not have a Daemon. There is no word for that in the Athosian language or culture. elegeia | nou ani atlantusTeyla stays in the City with Sheppard while McKay, Ford, Bates, Weir and Beckett must return to Earth for evaluation by the SGC and IOA. She helps with duties inside the City concerning security and resources, and goes offworld sparingly with various teams to help with negotiation and trade. AR-1 is on hold for time being.
On October 11, 2005, AR-2 report back to the City about an Ancient facility or outpost on Deserum. Teyla remains in Atlantis while Sheppard goes to investigate. When they hear back that Sheppard is being held hostage by a Runner demanding a medic to remove his subspace tracking device, Teyla arranges for Dr Mallory to report to the Gate Room right away. The Wraith arrive on the planet first, though, locking Atlantis out. Once Sheppard contacts them from the Waterfall Moon, Teyla sends Dr Mallory through. Ronon Dex is invited to Atlantis by Sheppard and accepts to come to the City. On November 11, the City receives a signal from the suddenly-waking-up Warship Aurora. Teyla goes with Sheppard, Ronon, AR-7 (Yamato, Stackhouse, Rutherford) and a team of scientists to recover the Warship. After the Daedalus returns to the City with McKay and Ford, AR-1 is reunited. There is a party on the night the Daedalus lands, and the morning after Teyla complains about her hangover. Later that morning, Weir calls senior staff for a meeting. They discuss the Daedalus' upcoming assignment and the relocation of the Athosians to a new world, M51-388. Teyla is with her team ready to go to seeking antebellumtbc.
