Celestis is a planet in the Ancient Home Galaxy. Ancient life evolved here many million years ago.
The First War between the Ori and the Ancients took place millions of years ago, before the invention of the Stargate or Hyperspace travel. The reason for this war was a religions and philosophical debate about Ascension, both how to reach it and how to wield the powers one gains afterward (if to use them at all). The Ori mean that the powers of Ascension makes them something likes gods which need to be worshiped (by humans, "lesser" beings), and that gives them even more power. Their view of Ascension is a deeply religious one. The Ancients mean that Ascension should be striven for through knowledge and self-enlightenment, and once Ascended one should not interfere with the "lower planes" of existence; the Others (Ascended beings in Avalon) make sure to punish Ascended who break their rule of Non-Interference. The War ends when the Ancients flee from Celestis and their Home Galaxy in ships equipped with Faster Than Light-drives. They fly through Ida, encountering the Asgard, and perhaps other galaxies before reaching Avalon, where they settle on Terra, which is very similar to Celestis as it was in the past. we are the raven and the ghostChaya Sar tells John Sheppard about the Ori and the First War when she briefly shares her mind with him when AR-1 come to Proculus searching for a ZPM.
nou ani atlantusIcarus mentions the Ori to John Sheppard when they meet in early 2006 CE. Icarus says he hopes the Tau'ri will never encounter the Ori. Via the City and knowledge left behind by Icarus, and also things told by Chaya Sar, John learns about the First War between the Ancients and the Ori. He warns Rodney and Weir not to try to contact the Ori with the Ancient Communication Stones for this reason.
