Aurora

The Warship Aurora is built by the Ancients sometime during the Ancient-Wraith War, before the Ancients had lost all of their Outposts and before they sank Atlantis to the bottom of the Lantean sea.
nou ani atlantusIn 7981 BCE, Captain Ephesia takes command of the Aurora. She asks for a volunteer crew to go with her behind enemy lines and find vital intel on how to give the Wraith a Call For Sleep, forcing all Wraith into hibernation again. Fifteen Ancients go to the surface of the Wraith planet to infiltrate the Hive; four, including Dulio, return.
However, the mission does not succeeded - they get the intel, but the Aurora is damaged and they cannot reach Atlantis again, which by then is underwater, with plans of an Evacuation to Earth. Ephesia and her crew put themselves in stasis. The ship's stasis pods are linked together in a neural network, creating an artificial environment. Eventually, the crew has spent so long time there they forgot that it isn't real and that they are in fact in stasis. Others in the Ancient crew are Laelius, Aemila and Marius. They are killed when a Hiveship ambushes the Aurora from behind an unknown planet's moon. Shortly after that the crew put themselves in stasis and lets the Aurora drift. Abandoned (seemingly) for ten thousand years, the Aurora drifts and is caught by the gravitational well of a binary star system in a very wide orbit. It orbits these stars - a red giant and a white dwarf - until the Atlantis Expedition discovers the ship in January 2005. Unknowing to Ephesia and her crew, Icarus, in Ascended form, activates the Warship's homing beacon, alerting Atlantis that the ship is functioning. The Wraith also detect this signal, and one Wraith boards the ship, kills the Ancient Caelia and takes her place in the virtual environment to learn about Ancient hyperdrives. John, Ronon, Teyla, Dr Grodin, Dr Kusanagi, Dr Zelenka and AR-7 (Rutherford, Yamato, Stackhouse) arrive on January 22 by two Puddlejumpers, a twenty hour journey from the nearest Stargate. John enters the virtual environment to speak with the Captain. The others find the Wraith and kills it, and disconnect John twenty minutes after he entered the system. He is in the middle of a conversation with the Captain, who seems to recognize him, but John does not get to hear what she meant to say. A Wraith ship is approaching, but the Aurora's sensors do not detect it because of radiation interference from the binary stars. The white dwarf is feeding rapidly off the red giant, about to go nova. This process is sped up by Icarus. John and his team manage to get the hyperdrives online for a few minutes, long enough for a jump of twenty-two parsecs and out of the immediate danger zone. The Wraith ship is destroyed by the nova. The Aurora now hovers in the void between two systems, P29-814 and P91-987, outside of the magnetic and gravitational reaches of each system. To reach the Aurora, the Expedition must travel from the Stargate on P91-987. The following months, the Aurora is slowly being repaired by a small rotating crew of technicians, engineers and scientists from the Atlantis Expedition. Major Lorne is often aboard to be in command, because of his rank and ATA-gene. seeking antebellumThe Aurora is still being repaired. The Daedalus has given the ship more people and raw materials to repair it, and also a few F-302:s and pilots, including Captain Spencer and Major Hudson. A small contingency of Atlantis marines are also allotted, coming aboard in shifts, to protect the ship in case an enemy boarding.
In February 2006, when under command of Major Lorne, the Aurora is discovered and chased by a Hiveship. The pursuit takes several hours. Eventually the Aurora takes cover in the upper layers of a gas giant, orbited by the moon M22-535. That moon was meant to be surveyed by the Expedition later, because there are Ancient ruins there indicating mining activity. The Aurora is not really ready for a battle, but they have no choice. Major Lorne orders Dr Kusanagi, Cadman and Mehra to head for the Gate on M22-535 in a Puddlejumper and dial Atlantis, to warn them about the situation. The Aurora spends some time inside the gas giant, until the shields cannot take the pressure anymore. They face the Wraith head-on. Puddlejumpers and F-302:s are launched in the battle. Major Hudson is one of the fighter pilots, as is Captain Spencer. Spencer is killed in the battle when his F-302 is hit. Major Lorne gives command of the Bridge to the scientists and rushes to the Chair to launch drones. Wraith Darts attack the ship, and some impact with the Aurora with boarding parties. A Dart tries to ram the Bridge, and is shot down by Captain Spencer shortly before he is killed. Several Darts do crash into the ship, causing massive damage. Some of the Bridge Crew are knocked out by the impact, including Grodin. Crucial damage has been done to a power node for the shield, without which they cannot jump to hyperspace. Sharpe directs Teldy and Oakley there to effect repairs. They are attacked by the Wraith there, and Oakley is hit by a stunner, but Teldy finishes repairs. All Jumpers and F-302:s are ordered to return to the Warship, and they jump to hyperspace, ending the battle without destroying the Hive. At first the Jumper with Kusanagi, Cadman and Mehra is presumed lost or destroyed, until it turns out Kusanagi latched the Jumper onto the Warship's hull moments before the hyperspace jump, carrying them to safety.
