James MacGrimmon

J.J. (as he prefers to be called; "Jimmy is my old man.") is a Sergeant of the U.S. Marine Corps, born March 17, 1975 in Atlanta. His Dæmon is named Juno. He is recruited by the SGC in August 2003 by Major Hurst, but didn't become part of an off-world team until October 16, 2004. That is when he is recruited by Colonel Sumner for the Atlantis Expedition, and met his future team for the first time: Lt Kemp, Lance Corporal Gladys, and Lt DeSalle. While on Earth they were SG-19, but once in Atlantis they became AR-4. J.J. is their team leader.
J.J. values loyalty, responsibility, and friendship very highly; he can be a bit naïve, perhaps slow on the uptake. Raised by Catholic parents to be tolerant and welcoming, he doesn't tolerate bullying, and he is a supporter of the LGTBQ+ community. He has three younger siblings, two brothers and a sister, all of which he is very fond of. Other family includes his grandparents, whom he tries to call or email whenever is possible (which is a bit difficult when living in another galaxy). He is very much a professional; the "responsible one" of the team, as he likes to call it, sometimes struggling with relaxing and letting his hair down. Once as kids, at eight years old, J.J. has a bike accident. He isn't hurt but Juno, his Dæmon, breaks a bone, which heals swiftly but still hurts. He is a big fan of Star Trek (the original series). He picks up the habit of reading from his ex-girlfriend Amy. Historywe are the raven and the ghost | this is the uprising | the law of gravityDuring the Uprising, MacGrimmon leads a temporary strike team (Security Team Three) consisting of DeSalle, Gregor, Hooper, and Johnson.
The Major takes AR-4, Teyla, Ford, and some other marines to confront the last of Everett's forces in a corridor. After the Uprising, MacGrimmon acts as Head of Security in Bates' absence. After the City has landed on New Lantea (September 2005) and senior personnel, with the exception of Sheppard, been recalled to Earth for evaluation, J.J. and his team have a team night and play Go Fish. They exchange gossip during the card game and debate when, or if, Sheppard will be promoted from Major to Lieutenant Colonel. Kemp and Gladys make a bet about who Sheppard could be seeing. Kemp insists it must be Teyla or Kusanagi, but Gladys disagrees. She whispers a name to the team and says that "it will be an open secret within twelve months". Kemp takes the bet, but "you say twelve months - I say fifteen". J.J. thinks they're being ridiculous and (whether he actually thinks Gladys is right) does not take a bet, nor does DeSalle. nou ani atlantusJ.J. and his team are in Atlantis when Icarus reveals himself and takes control of John Sheppard's body. Bates orders AR-4 to keep constant watch of Sheppard until the situation is resolved. At one point, Icarus takes control again and struggles when AR-4 tries to subdue him, hitting J.J. in the face. Gladys shoots Icarus/Sheppard with a Wraith stunner.
Afterward, Sheppard goes to apologize to him and his team, but J.J. understands that the situation was beyond their control. Dr McKay has explained the situation to them and told them about Icarus. McKay also misnamed MacGrimmon "MacGyver". AR-4 is still pretty shaken up, though. Gladys tries to apologize to Sheppard for stunning him, but he tells her to be at ease and that no apology is necessary; if she hadn't done it, more people could have been hurt. seeking antebellumIn early 2006, J.J. and his team return to Earth with AR-9 for leave. However, when Snow disappears, J.J. is drawn into the drama of the investigation. He follows Colonel Sheppard as a Personal Security Detail when they are interrogated by the NCIS. He refuses to tell Gibbs anything other than that Snow is a friend working on the same base and that he know nothing about his death.
He blames himself to a degree when NCIS HQ is attacked by Goa'uld and Jaffa, resulting in Colonel Sheppard and Director Sheppard being kidnapped and J.J. stunned by a zat'nik'tel. Later, when Snow is found, the hospital where he's recuperating while guarded by AR-4 and AR-9 is attacked, and J.J. is stabbed by Athena (possessing Agent Todd). He survives thanks to the quick actions of his team, and is ringed up by the Prometheus and down to the SGC for surgery. After the whole debacle is over, AR-4 get their leave, at last. Gladys flies to the U.K. while J.J., DeSalle and Kemp stay in the U.S.; before she boars the plane, Gladys has a text message conversation with J.J., who is still at Cheyenne Mountain, recuperating under the watchful eye of Dr Frasier and Dr Lam. In April 2006, J.J. and his team return with AR-9 to Atlantis. Thanks to his heroic actions in defending his team and fellow marines, he is promoted from Corporal to Sergeant. the law of gravityJ.J. joins the Stargate Program in 2003 as a Lance Corporal, after being recommended by his childhood friend Gregory Martinez. He is recruited by Major Hurst. The two joined the Corps at the same time in 1995. J.J. goes through Rookie Training at the SGC Alpha Site with other "newbies" Thompson, Markham, and West.
Later that year, J.J. goes with SG-17 and SG-1 to rescue a trapped team. There he saves the life of Dr Frasier, which results in his promotion to full Corporal. In early August 2006, J.J. and his team go on a mission to M20-999, delivering salt to the locals living there. A snow storm pulls in, so U'ua insist they stay in her family home overnight. Just hours before going offworld, J.J. spots Dr McKay and Colonel Sheppard on a balcony in an intimate moment, without their knowledge, and he vows not to let their secret come out. Later that same month, J.J. is introduced to Dr Potts by DeSalle, and they hit off at once. The next morning, his team are ambushed by Wraith offworld and J.J. is hit by a stunner; his and Juno's life are saved by Gladys and her Dæmon. J.J. starts dating Potts, but she works aboard the Aurora which is due to leave on a 15-day mission. Shortly afterward, his team go to P57-081 to explore, but are shot at by a Wraith Dart, causing their Jumper to crash. Gladys is injured, but kills the attacking Wraith. The team is picked up by AR-1 in Jumper One, and taken back to Atlantis to recover. MacGrimmon sends a message to Rachel, saying he's okay, asking how she's doing, and he asks her to pass along the word to Dr Kusanagi that Gladys is okay. Shortly afterward, Gladys is promoted to Corporal and there is a party where almost every Atlantis marine turns up. obsessionalWhen Weir goes to Tholus to negotiate, J.J. and his team follow her as a security escort, selected by Sergeant Bates.
