Aiden Ford
|
Aiden Ford is a member of the Original Expedition to Atlantis in 2004, joining the SGC a year earlier. He is handpicked as Colonel Sumner's XO. His Dæmon is named Adria.
Aiden grows up as an only child. His father, a marine, is killed action when Aiden is fourteen years old. Shortly afterward, his mother becomes badly ill, and falls into a coma. Aiden lives from his grandparents from then on. In 1999, his mother dies when the family decides it is time to let her go and turn off the machines keeping her body going. He is close to his cousin Sheri and likes to talk with her on the phone, or send emails. Aiden joins the Marines in 1999 and begins his training at Quantico, and becomes a Second Lieutenant in early 2000. Apart from combat and other training, he also has had some basic field medic training. Historywe are the raven and the ghost | this is the uprising | the law of gravityAiden is in Antarctica when O'Neill is flown there in a helicopter by Major Sheppard, and Carson accidentally launches a drone at them. The Major evades and lands safely, and then sits in the Ancient Chair, but Ford doesn't actually meet him there. Initially he hears rumors about the Major and, like most marines on base, is distrustful and disbelieving that the Major is going to join them on the journey to Atlantis.
When Sumner, Bates and several Athosians are taken by the Wraith, Aiden joins the Major in the assault on the Wraith Homeworld to get them back. After Sumner is killed by the Wraith, Sheppard who is highest ranking officer on base, steps up as CO but keeps Ford as his XO. Ford joins AR-1, Sheppard's team, along with Teyla Emmagan and Dr McKay. He becomes friends with them fairly quickly, adapting, and realizing that the Major isn't that bad (even if he is a zoomie). Ford also has duties in the City concerning security, and works with Sergeant Bates, the Head of Security, who remains suspicious of the Major and the Athosians longer than most people. Aiden goes on many missions with his team. Their first mission is to the Wraith Homeworld. There, an iratus bug attaches itself to Sheppard's neck, and Aiden has to stop his heart with a defibrillator. That begins to change his view of the world; he has never had to kill his CO before in order to save his life. When the Great Storm rolls in in early 2005, Aiden, Teyla and Carson fly to the Lantean Mainland in a Jumper to pick up the last Athosians. They are trapped by the storm and forced to wait it out. while doing so, they get a weak radio transmission from Sheppard, saying that the City is being stormed by a Genii Strike Force led by Kolya. Aiden wants to return to the City immediately to assist, but Carson refuses to fly the Jumper through the Storm. When the eye of the storm settles over them, they fly to the City only to find most Genii already dead. Aiden and Teyla help Sheppard retake the Control Room and free Weir and McKay, who were taken hostage by the Genii. After the Uprising and Thompson's memorial, Tyler says goodbye to Ford before Ford leaves for for Earth, wishing him good luck and telling him to better return to the City. nou ani atlantusFord, Bates, Carson and McKay have gone to Earth to report to the SGC after Atlantis' landing on New Lantea. They remain on Earth for several months. In this time, Major Lorne takes on some of the duties that Ford usually has as Colonel Sheppard's XO. While on Earth, Ford and Bates recruit 38 more marines or other personnel for the military contingency, and sends reports to Sheppard by email. The return trip to Atlantis via the Daedalus takes approximately a month (no ZPM to power the ship this time). When they return to the City near the end of 2005, Ford and the others are greeted by Sheppard and Teyla. Ford partakes in the reunion party along with most of the City's residents.
Ford partakes in a meeting with Dr Weir, Teyla, Bates and Halling where Halling, as the new leader of the Athosians, announce their decision to leave Atlantis to settle on a planet as their new permanent, independent home, New Athos. A few days later, Ford along with the rest of the City witnesses Sheppard's promotion ceremony from Major to Lt Colonel. Ford and Bates lead an introduction course for the 38 new marines. When AR-1 is about to travel to P9X-313 on a mission, Sheppard is possessed by Icarus, Ford witnesses him using telekinetic abilities due to Icarus being an Ascended Ancient, when Sheppard-as-Icarus kills the Goa'uld controlling Caldwell and thus preventing the destruction of Atlantis. Ford later refers to these abilities as being useful and "kick-ass". seeking antebellumIn early 2006, AR-1 goes on a mission using the Aurora to the planet where Sheppard first met Ronon. They find the Ancient site there to have been bombarded by the Wraith from orbit. In the debris they find Ancient communication stones and a device to control them. During the mission Sheppard breaks his leg and is grounded from offworld work for awhile. Ford leads AR-1 on a few missions without Sheppard.
A murder mystery and a missing Atlantis marine leads to Sheppard going to Earth, using the Ancient communication stones. Ford, McKay, Teyla and Ronon remain in Atlantis. Ford and Bates tend to much of the day-to-day leadership duties of the City's marines, with the help of Major Lorne and of course Dr Weir. During this time AR-1 does not go on offworld missions. Once the case has been solved, Ford is relieved things will be going back to normal with Sheppard's return. After the team has been reunited and Sheppard is healed and back on his feet, AR-1 goes to New Athos for two reasons. The first is official, to bring food and other supplies to the Athosians; there is a get-together with Halling and the team has a good time. The second reason is known only to AR-1; they take a Jumper to a private place of the New Athos, and Sheppard and McKay elope, exchanging vows with Ronon, Ford and Teyla as witnesses. While Sheppard and McKay enjoy a brief honeymoon (one night in a Jumper in orbit around the planet), Ford teaches Ronon and Teyla how to play poker. the law of gravityIn August 2006, Recon Four (MacGrimmon, Gladys, DeSalle, Kemp) crash onto P57-081. AR-1 including Ford are sent to help them out. They find the marines alive but Jumper Four buried in a sand dune, no systems working. After returning to the City, they mark P57-081 as 'potentially hostile' in the database.
In one (first) timeline, Ford and his team went to P70-800 where Sheppard and McKay were killed. In a second timeline, that is corrected by people from a future Atlantis. In the current timeline, Ford is aware that some kind of time travel intervention by future marines and scientist from Earth/Atlantis prevented the deaths of his teammates, but he does not know exactly who or how (only Sheppard and McKay knows the full details). obsessional Work in progressAR-1 is recalled from New Athos (final chapter of seeking antebellum) and ordered by Dr Weir to immediately go to Tholus to aid AR-8, who are already there, to establish trade relations. It does not go well, unfortuantely. After the botched mission from which they were saved by Caldwell beaming them up, Ford spends some time with AR-8 and AR-4 in the F-302 bay of the Daedalus on the way back to Atlantis.
The team's next mission is aboard the Aurora, to take the ship someplace safer and affect repairs. |
