Teal'c
|
Teal'c is a Jaffa from the planet Chulak. As a Jaffa, he has a stomach pouch where he carries an immature symbiote which helps him heal but it does not control him. Whoever, he is dependent on the symbiote to live, as it has replaced his body's natural immune system. He also retains a Dæmon, which all humans have, unlike a Goa'uld host which normally kills the Dæmon. This Dæmon would be removed once the symbiote is mature and takes full control, but Teal'c eventually gives up his first symbiote to save his son's life. His second symbiote is also sacrificed, to save his friend Bra'tac. After that, Teal'c is dependent on taking Tretonin, a drug developed by a Milky Way people called the Pangarans to protect humans from virtually all disease - it requires Goa'uld symbiotes to be made, and the user becomes dependent on it to live, as it suppresses the person's actual immune system. The Tok'ra refined the drug, making it easier to synthesize.
Teal'c is the First Prime of the System Lord Apophis until he rebels and joins SG-1 in 1997, coming to Earth and slowly being accepted by the SGC. He helps the SGC fight the Goa'uld, with the goal of freeing his fellow Jaffa. He is good friends with Carter, Jackson and O'Neill. At one point, SG-1 flee through the Gate to Earth when under fire. Teal'c is trapped in the Stargate's buffer, and Dr McKay is called to the SGC to assist Carter to get him out. His attempt does more harm than good and is one of the causes of initial animosity between McKay and SG-1. By 2005, the Goa'uld threat has been main neutralized and many Jaffa are free. These have made a Free Jaffa Nation and a new home for themselves. Teal'c often visits them and listens to the Free Jaffa Council.
